CAFF115: E-portfolio (Muhammad Ezany Danial)

The main reason why i create this blog because i want to share my experience during 6 weeks studying at University Teknologi MARA in Puncak Perdana, Shah Alam. I choose diploma in Animation because i has been watching cartoons and anime since i was young because my older brother really like anime at that time. He used to borrow DVD from his friends to watch anime series with me at home. From what i remember, we used to watch classic naruto series and digimon adventure 01 together at the time. At the age of 4 or 5 years old, i has start to draw by drawing the main character of Dragon Ball Z named Son Goku. Even though it's poorly drawn, as a kid, im proud of the result. Since then, i has been interested in drawing anime characters until now. That is why i had decided to turn my hobby into my career. I can get both money and have fun while doing my work by combining my hobby and career into one.

For the 6 weeks i have been learning through online classes because of coronavirus disease. Even though it's harder than normal classes, i had managed to learn and understand about basic things in Animation.

The class that i choose to talk about is Sir Azhar's class, illustration for animation. Sir Azhar has been teaching us about how to brainstorming character and design, developing our characters, giving each character a turnaround and lineup and bringing our characters alive by adding gesture and expression into them. He also gave us, animation students, a constructive criticism to help us improve our drawing. He also use to show us how to draw based on the shapes, size and form to makes our drawing looks more fluid.

For the first week of the class, Sir Azhar gave us warm up assigment. We need to brainstorm 3 character design for our animation scene. Minimum 10 designs for 1 character.

So here's the result of my brainstorming of characters;

For Character B(YUKI), i need to draw another 10 different character designs because Sir Azhar is not pleased with my character designs for Character B(YUKI).

CHARACTER C(YATA);

For the second week, we need to do character design. Sir Azhar has pick 9 character designs from week 01's warm up assignment for us to develop the characters but for me, he only pick two character, character A and character C to develop. For character B, Sir Azhar only want me to change his gender into a female and keep moving to turn around and lineup. For 1 character, we need to develop into 3 designs but with the same artstyle.

For the third week, we need to do character turnaround and character lineup for the 3 choosen character in second week. This assigment is quiet challenging for me because it's my first time drawing something like this.

For the fourth week, we need to draw 7 expression and 7 gesture for each character.

The reason why i redraw the whole expression because i am not satisfied with the results after seeing there is someone in my class draw a lot better than me. I call her "sensei" because she has help me a lot for this past 6 weeks. She is incredibly good in digital drawing.

So that's all of the assignments that i managed to completed in Sir Azhar's class, illustration for animation for the past 6 weeks.

Other than sir Azhar's class, i also learn how to draw figure or human anatomy through Sir Aidi's class, figure drawing. We can draw in digital in Sir Aidi's class.

Also, i have understand more about color theory through Madam Nora's class, Fundementals of Design. Same like Sir Aidi, Madam Nora allowed us to draw in digital.

I did this one for Sir Azhar's class, for warm up assigment in week 01 

but all of them ended up getting rejected;

Most of them are sketches because i'm still learning and trying to understand on how humans' anatomy and poses works.

My Goals:

I want to get better in drawing. I want to learn more about human anatomy,character design, perspective view, background,coloring, character expression and gesture and many more that i might have known in the future. I also want to be an comic illustrator and publish my own comic by using my own storyline and drawing. I intend to develop comic industry in Malaysia like comic industry in Japan so that people would acknowledge comic illustrator's career.

My Plans:

My plans after i graduated from UiTM Puncak Perdana,  i want to start working in the field i studied in UiTM to gain money and experience. I'm planning to work for 2 or 3 years before continue my studies in 2d animation for degree. I'm planning to start doing art commission during my studies years to gain more money.

I have learn a lot of new things in the past 6 weeks while studying Diploma in Animation in University Teknologi MARA in Puncak Perdana. I now have known some of the basics of drawing like how to design my character, how to draw anatomy and understand what is color theory through my 6 weeks learning in UiTM. It's really fun to learn and know that there's so many things that i haven't learn yet. The more i learn, the more i realize how much i don't know. I will try my best to develop my drawing into something that's even greater than my current level right now. I hope that i will achieved my goals to become a professional artist one day.
